Hunger Action Month
September was Hunger Action Month, and we joined a national initiative to raise awareness and advocate for change. Our mission is to serve all individuals with dignity because food can nourish the mind, body, and spirit. We continued to feed the community here in Ypsi as well as Ann Arbor, made possible thanks to our partners, staff, and volunteers. We are proud to have served over 3,000 meals last month and hosted events with drinks and snacks on other days. Remember, we are always available to cater your event to provide nutritious and affordable meals for your community. For more infomation visit:

Coming Out Day
October is LGBTQ+ History Month! On October 11, our community is excited to once again celebrate National Coming Out Day. First celebrated in 1988, National Coming Out Day was created to let people know that LGBTQ+ members are everywhere in the community. We continue to show our support to family, friends, colleagues, and peers by living into our identities, advocating for just policies, and creating a safe place for all queer folks to thrive. On Saturday, Oct. 12 we will be hosting an event from 2:00-5:00 PM with a baked goods fundraiser, merch sale, glitter blessings, and a free meal. Look out for our rainbow decor at FedUp Headquarters in Ypsi! |
National Domestic Violence Awareness
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This annual designation is a time to raise awareness about domestic violence and show support for survivors. Domestic violence is a serious issue that affects millions of people every year. It can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse. It’s important to know that anyone can be a victim of domestic violence regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please reach out for help. There are many free and confidential resources available. You can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or visit their website at thehotline.org. |

New Staff
Help us welcome Chad and George to the FedUp team! |
Chad
Hi, I’m Chad, I’m a general handyman and woodworker. I’ve been volunteering here for the past month as a part of the hospitality crew. I also volunteer at the Solidarity House and try to do my part with the community and help out wherever I can. |
George
I’m here to help my community, even though I don’t have much myself. I’m a social butterfly, period. I can talk to anybody which helps me when working here. I love working with Pastor Anna and the FedUp team! |
New Interns
We have several new interns from U-M this month, including two MSW interns and three new dietetics interns! You'll be introduced to them as they join our team over the course of the semester!

Autumn
My name is Autumn (She/Her) and I am an MSW student at the University of Michigan! I am pursuing Management and Leadership to help empower grassroots organizations and faith-based nonprofits. I have previously worked with children, families, and formerly incarcerated individuals. I am from West Michigan and have plenty of love for the lake, as well as hiking and birdwatching. I grew up using our local food banks at my church and have developed a deep respect for the work that they do. I hope to utilize my environmental values and church experience here at FedUp. |
Kat
Hi, I'm Kat (she/her) and I'm excited to join the FedUp Ministries team! I'm currently pursuing my MSW degree at the University of Michigan School of Social Work, specializing in global and political advocacy. Originally from Oklahoma, I moved to Michigan in 2018 and quickly discovered my passion for macro social work during my time at Ferris State University, where I earned my BSW. My experience in community organizing and canvassing has provided me with a strong foundation to contribute to FedUp's mission of promoting equity and empowerment. I'm deeply inspired by the organization's values and eager to make a meaningful impact. When I'm not immersed in social work, I love spending time with my adorable pittie and pursuing my passions for skateboarding, boxing, and trail biking. |
Addie
Addie (she/her) is a dietetic intern at the UM School of Public Health and is thrilled to be serving the FedUp mission. She’s originally from New Jersey (just outside New York City), and earned her MS in Nutrition from the UM School of Public Health in May 2024. She was drawn to nutrition because she believes in the power of food to bring people together, and that everyone deserves access to safe, nutritious food. In her free time, you can find Addie playing pickleball, knitting, running, or really doing anything outside. |
