Looking for a Full-time Culinary Team Leader:
FedUp Ministries is looking for a Culinary Leader in our kitchen who can shepherd our team. This person must be passionate about food and creating nourishing, culturally appropriate, elevated meals for our guests. This person must have leadership qualities that involve overseeing other staff members and leading our kitchen team with clarity. This person must have patience for the population we serve, as they also volunteer and work alongside us. This position will report to the Director of Programs. Culinary Responsibilities
- Have ServSafe Manager Certification and ensure kitchen safety protocols are followed by every program staff member and volunteer
- Create new, innovative and health-forward recipes in the kitchen
- Create culturally appropriate meals for FedUp’s various contexts
- Understand dietary restrictions, the severity of food allergies, and properly labeling food
- Responsible for the quality of every dish that leaves the kitchen
- Connect with local food and garden partners
- Order food from suppliers/Grocery shop
Administrative Responsibilities
- Report to a weekly planning meeting with our Director of Programs
- Capable of forecasting menus and communicating them with our administrative and program staff
- Monthly meal plans are ideal, but with flexibility to incorporate new catering jobs on the fly
- Conduct daily wrap in and wrap out meetings with kitchen staff, Director of Programs
- Train and supervise kitchen staff and volunteers
- Support University of Michigan Dietetics Interns and encourage their learning while at their field placement with FedUp Ministries
- Schedule, delegate, and complete daily, weekly, and monthly meal program related inventory and cleaning
- Administrative responsibilities will be supported by a kitchen coordinator and our Director of Programs
- Join Pastor Anna, the FedUp Board of Directors, other FedUp leadership team members, and community members in envisioning the direction of our meal program as it adapts to our community’s ever changing needs
Other
- Transportation required
- Drivers license required
- Previous experience creating menus, managing inventory, and executing any size catering jobs required
- Culinary degree or equivalent time in high end food service industry required
- Computer required (we can help if needed)
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Attention to detail
- We are flexible and are willing to work with the right candidate who has childcare needs, a felony conviction, etc
- Attend monthly staff meetings
Hours and Pay Range
- Starts at $23/hour, raising to $25/hour after satisfactory completion of three month trial period
- Around 40 hours per week
- Mostly Monday-Thursday, with weekends as needed (Fridays are typically our regular day off!)
